The Soul Syndicate will be taking the stage on the Kentwood City Hall lawn on Thursday, July 23 at 6:30 p.m. to deliver a soul-infused, high-energy entertainment experience designed to keep the audience dancing.
The 10-member funk, soul and dance band will be the sixth scheduled performance of the 2026 Kentwood Summer Concert Series, and the fifth time The Soul Syndicate has participated in the annual summer concerts.
“We always look forward to a great experience playing in Kentwood,” said Tom Taylor, the band’s drummer. “We always have a lot of dancers, and the Kentwood crew is always wonderful to work with.”
Fan favorite dance medleys
The Kentwood audience will be treated to the soulful sounds of Mike Coon on guitar and vocals, Matt Fouts on bass, John Neil on keyboard, Colin Tobin as lead male vocalist, Katie Sarb as lead female vocalist, Tim DenBesten on trumpet and vocals, Nate Hansen and Danny Giacobassi on saxophone, Jeff Carroll on trombone and Tom Taylor on drums.
As with each venue they visit, The Soul Syndicate can be counted on to deliver a unique sound with their carefully crafted and multi-song medley arrangements.
“We continue to focus on fan favorites and create multi-song medleys so we can fit more recognizable songs into the set – something for everyone,” Taylor explained.
Concert attendees on July 23 can expect to hear fan favorites “Ode to the ‘70s” and The Soul Syndicate’s trademark funk medley.
Still sought out after 13 years
Powerful vocals, an energetic horn section and crowd-pleasing dance medleys keep audiences dancing all night long – but friendship and common goals are what keep The Soul Syndicate returning to the stage again and again.
“We all get along really well and have common goals of always putting on a great show,” Taylor said. “We’ve continued to have the same group of players in the band for six-plus years, which is somewhat unusual for a group our size.
“We all just love hitting the stage and making an audience smile and dance and leave the stress of everyone’s life behind for a night of music played by a live group.”
The Soul Syndicate performs at a variety of venues, such as outdoor festivals, concerts, weddings and corporate events. After 13 years as a West Michigan band, audiences are still seeking out their soulful tunes.
“Our audience continues to find us,” Taylor said. “There are many different bands and performers of music of all styles, and we are thrilled folks still love coming to our shows.”
