Center for Inquiry Michigan (CFI) is partnering with the Grand Rapids Pride Center again this year to celebrate Pride Month and will show support by flying the PRIDE Flag at our office at 3777 44th Street for the entire month of June. The organization will also be tabling at the Grand Rapids Pride Festival on June 17th from 10 am to 7 pm.

On June 14th, CFI Michigan hosts Mira Krishnan, PhD, who is a consultant and neuropsychologist specializing in supporting diverse populations and people with disabilities. She is a board member for Equality Michigan, and advocates on the state and national levels for clear non-discrimination in housing, employment, public accommodations, and reproductive justice. Krishnan will speak on the fundamental importance of building bridges between LGBT, secular, progressive, and faith-based communities.

“June is a time when the LGBTQIA+ community celebrates our unprecedented level of inclusion in our communities and our hard fought and won rights, but also braces for the work that remains to be done,” said Krishnan. “We live in a time when we are confronted daily with challenges to our shared, secular, societal values. As people become more open about and embrace pride in non-faith-based identities, there is a tremendous opportunity to work together to advance the things we believe in collectively, and help each other while creating room for a more open, tolerant society that validates different perspectives and embraces people with different life experiences.”

The June 14th lecture, Building Bridges Among LGBT, Progressive, Faith-Based, and Secular Communities will be held at the Women’s City Club, 254 E. Fulton Street, at 7 pm. The event is FREE and open to the public, and the media is welcome to attend. There is a suggested donation of $5. For more details visit the event calendar here.
