Expand your knowledge and appreciation of the world of birds this spring by taking part in the W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary’s 13th annual Field Ornithology course.
Local bird expert and photographer Josh Haas from Hawks on the Wing and Sanctuary Manager Lisa Duke will co-lead the course, which also will feature talks by state and local scientists and other experts. Participants may register to take the entire course, or opt for just the lectures or just the field trips. All skill levels are welcome.
This engaging, hands-on learning experience will help you improve your bird watching and identification skills. Each two-part lecture includes talks from a guest followed by an identification lesson led by Josh. Experienced birders lead field trips to local birding hotspots.
The course runs from Tuesday, March 17, to Saturday, May 16. Tuesday evening lectures will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on March 17 and 31, April 14 and 28, and May 12 in the Sanctuary’s auditorium. Saturday morning field trips will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. March 21, April 4 and 18, and May 2 and 16.
The cost for the full course is $170 for Sanctuary members or $200 for non-members. The cost for only either field trips or classroom sessions is $85 for members and $100 for non-members. The course is open to participants ages 14 and older, and registration is required by Friday, March 13.
