Put your child’s mind at ease: Metro Health offers free, pre-surgical tours

By Metro Health-University of Michigan Health

A medical visit can be tough for children, whether they’re the patient or visiting a patient. Metro Health’s Child Life team provides support to patients from infant to 18 years of age in a family-centered environment where patients, siblings and caregivers can interact and find healing.

Metro Health offers free tours for children and their family as part of a pre-operative teaching program.

In a one-hour interactive session, children and their family can participate in a medical play session, visit the surgery preparation and recovery rooms, learn about medical equipment, and have their questions and concerns answered prior to their scheduled surgery date.

This allows you and your child the opportunity to familiarize yourselves with the surgery process in a manner that is non-threatening and directed to a child’s perspective and special concerns.
