KDL hosts series on early childhood development at three different branches

During the month of January, KDL will host three programs on early childhood development at three different branches.

The first program is Jan. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the KDL Byron Township Branch, 8191 Byron Center Ave. SW. The training program is to help Early Childhood Professionals recognize the important work they do on a day-to-day basis. Curriculum and lesson planning can be complicated, intimidating and overwhelming and it does not have to be. This program will look at how curriculum is already taking place and how to document information and plan for developmentally appropriate activities without being overwhelmed.

The next program is about the developmental stages of self control and will be on Jan. 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the KDL Kentwood (Richard L. Root) Branch, 4950 Breton Ave. SE. Early childhood is one of the ideal times to teach concepts of self-worth, self-control, and seeing how our behaviors affect those around us. The program will look at the four stages of self-control and how educators can help: establish a sense of self, manage impulses, alternative physical outlets and channel anger.

The third program is focused on social emotional benefits of family inclusion. This program is set for Jan. 31 at 6:30 p.m. at the KDL Wyoming Branch, 3350 Michael Ave. SW. The purpose of this training is to share information on the importance of supporting both children and families as a part of an early childhood program, for the purpose of supporting social emotional development in children. Participants will look at why this approach is important as well as methods of supporting a diverse group of children and families.
