The Bangladeshi Community of West Michigan and the Western Michigan Bengali Cultural Association will host its annual Bengali New Year celebration May 7 at the Wyoming Junior High School, 2125 Wrenwood St. SW. The event is from noon to 4 p.m.

 

The event celebrates Poila Baishakh, the first day of the Bengali calendar in India and Bangladesh. The guest speaker is Bing Goei, the director of the Michigan Office for new Americans and co-president of the West Michigan Asian American Association. The president of Eastern Floral, Goei has been active with a number of local community organizations and started the International Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence at the Goei Center in Grand Rapids.

 

The event will feature a lunch from noon to 2 p.m. with the cultural program running from 2 – 4 p.m.

 

Tickets for adults are $15 and include a raffle ticket. Tickets are $8 for children 12 – 5 and free for children 4 and under. For more information, call 616-914-0670.
