The City of Kentwood will celebrate the grand opening of the new Kentwood Community Center on Saturday, Sept. 26, inviting the community to explore the new facility, enjoy family-friendly activities, live music, food, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Following the grand opening celebration the facility will officially open to the public at 5:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5.
Grand Opening Celebration
The Grand Opening Celebration takes place from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Kentwood Community Center, 4755 Walma Ave. SE.
The event will include:
- Ribbon-cutting ceremony: 1 p.m. Remarks from the Mayor and more
- Guided tours: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 4 p.m.
- Family-friendly activities: 2 to 5 p.m. throughout the building
- Giveaways for the first 500 attendees, while supplies last. Look out for Golden Tickets for 10-day passes.
- Food:
- Food trucks: Dune Buggy, Tarriko Taqueria, and Rub and Grub LLC
- Desserts from The Bistro
- Alcohol available for purchase from The Bistro and outside bars for adults 21 and older.
- Live music: Signal Trip from 3 to 5 p.m. and Klay N’ The Mud from 6 to 8 p.m.

General Public Opening: Monday, Oct. 5
The Community Center officially opens to the public at 5:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5.
The additional preparation time will allow the Community Center team to complete staff training and ensure employees are confident and ready to provide a quality customer experience from Day One.
“Our staff has worked incredibly hard to prepare the building, programs, and services for the community,” said Val Romeo, director of Kentwood Parks and Recreation. “We want every person who walks through our doors to feel welcomed and have a great experience, and this additional time will help us make sure we’re ready.”
Founding Member billing will begin Oct. 5, not Sept. 28. Founding Members will not be charged for their membership before the Community Center’s public opening.
The Kentwood Community Center offers a variety of spaces and amenities designed to serve residents and visitors of all ages, including an indoor walking track, fitness center, gymnasium, Bistro, event spaces, outdoor amenities, programs, and activities.
