Protect Our Species: Earth Day 2019

By Breeanna Sewers, Cherry Health

Earth Day is approaching and presents an opportunity to celebrate nature and show it some much needed love by participating in environmental action. As many of us may be busy on April 22, here are a few options for environmental action during downtime or on breaks throughout the day.

  • Energy conservation: Be mindful to turn off computer monitors, lights, and other electronics when not in use. Not all electronics will sleep or shut off automatically.
  • Recycle: For items not accepted through your site’s recycling, check out earth911.com for information on other options.
  • Calculate your footprint: Gain a deeper understanding of your impact and what you can do for the environment by checking out these free calculators: carbonfootprint.com or watercalculator.org.
  • Talk: Having an open conversation about the environment can raise individual and organizational awareness about the current conditions, concerns, and options for sustainable change.

Even if you are unable to participate in these or other forms of environmental action, be sure to mark your calendars for Earth Day on April 22.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” –Margaret Mead
