Innovative acoustic guitar virtuoso Leo Kottke comes to St. Cecilia Music Center’s Royce Auditorium stage April 14.

Known for a fingerpicking style that draws on blues, jazz, and folk music, and for syncopated, polyphonic melodies, Kottke overcame a series of personal obstacles, including partial loss of hearing and a nearly career-ending bout with tendon damage in his right hand to emerge as a widely recognized master of his instrument. Focusing primarily on instrumental composition and playing, Kottke also sings sporadically, in an unconventional yet expressive baritone.

In concert, Kottke intersperses humorous and often bizarre monologues with vocal and instrumental selections from throughout his career, played solo on his 6- and 12-string guitars.

He performs at 7:30 p.m. April 14 at St. Cecilia Music Center, 24 Ransom Ave. SW. Single tickets for the Leo Kottke concert are $40 for an A section seat and $35 for a B section seat. Tickets can be purchased by calling St. Cecilia Music Center at 616-459-2224 or visiting the box office at 24 Ransom Ave. NE. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.scmc-online.org. A post-concert “Meet-the-artists” reception with a cash bar will be offered to all ticket-holders giving the audience the opportunity to meet Kottke and obtain signed CDs of his releases.
