Detroit crime writer visits Grand Valley for writers series Nov. 5

Detroit author Stephan Mack Jones will be part of the Grand Valley Writers Series when he presents Nov. 5 at the Kirkhof Center room 2270 at GVSU’s Allendale campus. There will be a craft talk at 1 p.m. and a reading and book signing at 6 p.m.

 

Jones received a number of awards for his crime thriller “August Snow.” Set in Detroit, the book follows the story of former police officer August Snow, who was forced out of the department due to corrupt cops and politicians. Having left the city, Snow returns only to be summoned to the palatial Grosse Pointe Estates home of business magnate Eleanore Paget. Paget wants Snow to investigate some unusual happenings at her bank. Snow declines, but when Paget ends up dead the next day, Snow finds he must figure out what happened before the criminals come after him.

For the book, Jones was awarded the the 2018 Nero Award by the Nero Wolfe Society and it named the 2018 Michigan Notable Book by the Library of Michigan. Jones also received the Hammett Prize for literary excellence in the field of crime writing from the International Association of Crime Writers. Jones is a poet, an award-winning playwright and winner of the Kresge Arts in Detroit Literary Fellowship. He lives in the metro Detroit area.
