Citygate Network honors Mel Trotter Ministries’ CEO with national award

Dennis Van Kampen

Mel Trotter Ministries, the largest provider of services to people experiencing homelessness in West Michigan, is proud to announce that Dennis Van Kampen, President & CEO of the organization recently received the 2022 Nehemiah Award at the annual Citygate Conference in San Antonio, Texas on June 3. This national award recognizes exemplary work by individuals in their community.

“The greatest honor of my professional career and my ministry has been working at Mel Trotter and serving our neighbors in need,” said Dennis Van Kampen. “Jesus called us to serve the least of these and that’s what we do every single day.”

The Nehemiah Award is given to one of 300+ member organizations in the National Citygate Network for exhibiting extraordinary efforts to address the brokenness in his or her city and restoring its property and people.

Citygate Network is North America’s oldest and largest community of independent, faith-based crisis shelters and life-transformation centers.

“We are honored to be a part of the Citygate family,” said Tonja Moyer, Board Chair of Mel Trotter Ministries. “This recognition for Dennis is a reflection of his leadership and the amazing work the entire team at Mel Trotter delivers to our community every single day.”

Van Kampen has been with the organization since 2012 and has served as President & CEO since 2015. He has been instrumental in revolutionizing the way services are offered to those facing homelessness, by putting dignity and respect at the forefront of Mel Trotter Ministries’ services – underscoring their mission of demonstrating the compassion of Jesus Christ to all.
