Attention all young poets! KDL hosts poetry contest for teens

poetry-720610_960_720For the 13th year, the Kent District Library is hosting its annual teen poetry contest with a little twist – two chances to win.

Kent County residents in grades 6 – 12 can submit up to three written poems for a chance to win a $50 gift card from Schuler Books & Music. By entering the poetry contest, all students are eligible for the Spoken Word Competition on May 17 at the KDL Kentwood (Richard L. Root) Branch, 4950 Breton SE. The Spoken Word Competition will be hosted by Grand Rapids’ own spoken word poets, The Diatribe.

To compete in the Spoken Word Competition, participants must submit a written work by April 30. All poems must be original work and all submissions become the property of KDL. It is recommended that you make a copy of the poem for your records. Winning entries will appear on the KDL website’s teen page.

There will be 10 winners selected through the juried process and 10 winners at the Spoken Word Competition. Each will receive a $50 gift card. Juried winners will be notified by May 15.
