Public Museum hosts ‘Astronomy as Storytelling’ program

Grand Rapids Public Museum opens a new exhibit tomorrow.
Grand Rapids Public Museum hosts “Astronomy as Storytelling” April 21.

The Grand Rapids Public Museum (GRPM) in partnership with the Grand Rapids Amateur Astronomical Association (GRAAA) will host “Astronomy as Storytelling” in the Chaffee Planetarium on Thursday, April 21. This presentation will tour the prominent constellations and the mythology that has developed behind them over the centuries.

Headlands International Dark Sky Park Program Director Mary Stewart Adams will lead the presentation. Adams will include an update on latest developments at the Headlands International Dark Sky Park. During her presentation, visitors can expect to see a night sky as dark and star filled as the technology can provide, as well as a beach scene with the sound of lapping waves to simulate an actual Headlands Dark Sky Park experience.

Adams is a star lore historian, storyteller and author who has been immersed in a love of astronomy for more than 30 years. She has received numerous awards and widespread recognition for her presentations and efforts to preserve the night sky for future generations.

“Astronomy as Storytelling” will take place on Thursday, April 21 at 7 p.m. in the Museum’s Chaffee Planetarium. The presentation is free to attend and is limited to the first 140 guests. For more information visit grpm.org.
