Wyoming Police respond to a domestic disturbance and use lethal force against an armed suspect.
Shortly after 1 a.m. on Sept. 16, officers from the Wyoming Police Department responded to a residence in the 200 block of Lemyra SE after receiving a report of an unwanted 31-year-old male at the residence in violation of a protective order.
While officers were en route, they received reports suggesting that the male suspect may have fired a weapon inside the residence. Upon arrival, officers located a male armed with a handgun inside the home. Two Wyoming officers discharged their weapons, striking the suspect, who died at the scene.
No other individuals were injured during the incident.
Department policy
In accordance with department policy, the Kent County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident and will provide more information as it becomes available.
The two officers involved are on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure after an officer-involved shooting.
