Alejandro Escovedo comes to St. Cecilia Music Center May 5.

Rocking’ alternative folk / country guitarist Alejandro Escovedo will perform on May 5 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Cecilia Music Center, 24 Ransom Ave. SW.

Escovedo’s music ranges from full force rock’n’roll to the subtle delicacy heard from a string quartet, sometimes in the same song. Rolling Stone‘s David Fricke describes him well as “a folk-blues classicist with a gritty, plaintive voice and an equal fondness for dirty boogie and spectral balladry.”  That approach has distinguished Escovedo as one of contemporary music’s truly original and unique artists, earning him consistent critical hosannas. The breadth and depth of his creativity prompted No Depression magazine to name him its Artist of the Decade even before the close of the 1990s.

Concert tickets are $30 and $35 and can be purchased by calling St. Cecilia Music Center at 616-459-2224 or visiting the box office at 24 Ransom Ave. NE. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.scmc-online.org.  A post-concert “Meet-the-artists” reception with a cash bar will be offered to all ticket-holders giving the audience the opportunity to meet Escobedo and obtain signed CDs of his releases.
