West Michigan businessman Peter M. Perez has served as president of two world-famous companies in the music industry, Steinway & Sons and C.G. Conn. Now he becomes head of a third music organization, as President and CEO of the Grand Rapids Symphony.

The chairman of Carter Products in West Michigan has been a longtime symphony supporter as past Board Chairperson and co-chair of the Grand Rapids Symphony’s Legacy of Excellence Campaign that reached its $40 million goal in April 2016.

Perez, a retired U.S. Navy officer who served his country as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Manufacturing in the U.S. Department of Commerce in Washington from 2010-2012, was appointed interim President and CEO in January ahead of the departure of Peter Kjome, who now is President and CEO of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.
