Detroit’s own Ray Parker, Jr., award-winning Mega Musician/Super Producer (whose many honors include an Oscar, multiple Grammy wins, a STAR on The Hollywood Walk of Fame and more) — the ‘Motown Funk Brother’ who wrote and performed the iconic theme to the Ghostbusters! movie — will be performing live  at the Idlewild Heritage Music Festival, Saturday August 13, 2016, on the beach on Williams Island in historic Idlewild, Michigan. Live music begins at 1 pm.

The Idlewild Heritage Music Festival celebrates the rich entertainment and entrepreneurial spirit of the historic African American resort. Nestled in the middle of the Manistee National Forest, the 3,000-acre Idlewild resort is the largest and most intact of these remaining resorts. In its heyday, Idlewild was the cultural and entertainment nexus in the African American community. During the summers it drew 25,000 visitors from all over the United States and had 300 African American-owned and operated businesses.

Festival highlights include cultural exhibits Black History 101, Signature Series Mobile Museum and The Tuskegee Airmen, Black Wings Mobile Museum. The show is hosted by comedian Mike Bonner. Local Metro Detroit performers Duane Williams, Debonair Casanova, Domaine are slated to perform as well as Grand Rapids performers Jeri Wade and Sarge Tha Dame and Bedrock.
